General Assembly is seeking an Instructor Manager to support our learning experiences in Singapore.

General Assembly’s impact on learners depends on the passion, caring, and quality of our instructional teams, which feature top industry professionals from a variety of fields including data analytics, software development, digital marketing, product management, and product design. The Instructor Manager’s role is to recruit, hire, onboard, coach, and support our instructors as they transition from conference rooms to classrooms, where they are responsible for designing and facilitating learner-centered instruction that provides our learners with a “job ready” foundation — the technical skills, soft skills, and mindsets to achieve both personal and professional success. 

This role is based in Singapore and is delivered in a hybrid (campus and online) format, requiring the Instructor Manager to reside in Singapore and have an eligible work permit or be a Singapore citizen or permanent resident. (We are not currently sponsoring employees.)

Responsibilities and Duties

Working in close partnership with local and Global teams, the Instructor Manager is responsible for ensuring our GA classrooms are staffed with the right mix of instructors who are eager and ready to share their expertise with our learners, as well as facilitating an engaged local instructor community.

Staffing

  • Develop a strong, diverse pipeline of instructional talent to staff current and future cohorts, which includes both full-time and contract instructors. Classes currently include full-time (12 week) and part-time (24 week) bootcamps focused on Data Analytics, Software Engineering, and User Experience Design; short courses (4 hours for 10 weeks) on Product Management and Digital Marketing; single-and multi-day workshops on various topics including Figma, Python, AI, and Tableau.
  • Identify and recruit qualified local industry professionals with promising instructional capabilities and/or training experience. Recruitment channels include LinkedIn, technology-related conferences/events, and personal networks.
  • Manage the instructional candidate journey, including organising sample teaching sessions, interviews with the internal team, scheduling classroom observations, creating contracts, and working with HR on instructor setup.
  • Collaborate with Admissions, Operations, and Student Success to plan and staff instructional teams, which include lead instructors, substitute instructors, instructional associates, homework markers  based on the course schedule and learner enrollment. 

Onboarding

  • Partner with Student Success to define classroom administrative, management, and assessment documents and workflows; periodically revisit these documents and workflows to continue optimising based on instructor feedback and learner needs.
  • Facilitate onboarding for each instructional team member that sets them up for day one success by orienting them to the curriculum, internal processes, the GA team, as well as adult learning theories and instructional practices they can use to effectively support diverse learners.
  • Support each instructors’ transition to the classroom by sharing education pedagogies/strategies and social emotional learning best practices to facilitate a positive classroom culture and achieve successful learning outcomes for each learner.

Coaching & Retention

  • Invest in coaching relationships with each instructor — through classroom observations, 1:1 meetings, ad-hoc discussions —  to support their ongoing growth as instructors, General Assembly ambassadors, and professional leaders.  Understand each instructor’s goals and needs and problem solve ways to better improve their experience and support their professional development.
  • Monitor and manage course quality and progress through qualitative (observing lessons, attending project presentations, mentoring/advising learners) and quantitative (reviewing various learner surveys and data) sources.
  • Work with Student Success and Operations to actively respond to learner goals and needs, designing and/or formulating action plans or documents based on available data. Examples include updates to project assessments; creation of a local Responsible AI Policy; addition of new course material.
  • Identify opportunities to keep our active and inactive instructor community engaged through General Assembly-hosted networking events, tech interview sessions, guest speaking opportunities, and panel discussions. 

Other

  • Facilitate partnerships with local social enterprises, startups, and non-profit organizations to partner with our learners on their pro-bono (capstone) projects as well as other learning opportunities (e.g. networking events, hackathons) to raise awareness for social impact and community building. General Assembly has previously collaborated with better.sg, Open Government Products, Rently, EB Impact, Aidha, Geniebook, Omni App Solutions, and more.

Skills and Qualifications

  • You have experience managing multiple team members both remotely and in-person, ideally in an education (tertiary or above) or corporate training setting.
  • You have experience leading recruiting and hiring processes, including sourcing candidates and conducting interviews that identify effective candidates, ideally in an education or corporate training capacity.
  • You have experience mentoring, coaching, or training team members, ideally in an education or corporate setting.
  • You have experience as an instructor or trainer, ideally for adult learners in Singapore. 
  • You have experience effectively evaluating instructional material  and can provide actionable coaching feedback to instructors that improves the instructors’ skill set and learner outcomes. 
  • Experience in education administration and/or learner assessment strategy, delivery, and management is a plus.
  • You currently reside in Singapore and have a valid Singapore work pass and/or authorization. Please ensure you have the right to work in Singapore before applying.
