The WHS Officer supports the safety and wellbeing of the people behind Defence Force recruiting by ensuring consistent, compliant and proactive workplace health and safety practices across a national operation. The role partners with key stakeholders across Adecco, the Commonwealth and subcontractors to drive a strong safety culture, manage safety risk, and ensure legislative compliance. It combines hands-on WHS delivery with strategic oversight, including incident management, investigations, audits, training, policy development and continuous improvement, within a fast-paced and nationally significant Defence environment.

Job Description

Reporting to the National WHS officer, the WHS Officer is responsible for ensuring a nationally consistent and legislatively compliant approach to workplace health and safety across ADF Careers, ensuring the health and safety of ADF Careers personnel, and the workplace safety of Adecco facilities and assets across the ADF Careers business.

You will:

  • Manage WHS across ADF Careers personnel and Adecco facilities and assets across the ADF Careers business, in line with policy, procedure and state/territory legislative requirements.​
  • Maintain and drive the ADF Careers WHS Management Plan to ensure Adecco personnel and operations are meeting WHS legislative requirements and championing a positive safety culture across ADF Careers.
  • Create, implement, review, and update WHS policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular workplace inspections and WHS risk assessments, and assist in the conduct of verification audits, to identify potential WHS hazards and risks and ensure appropriate safety controls are in place and working effectively.
  • Investigate, or assist in the investigation of, workplace accidents, incidents, near-misses, and injuries. Identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Provide relevant WHS training and awareness raising programs (including safety educational programs, inductions, toolbox talks) for all workers.​
  • Provide regular reporting to required stakeholders on WHS incidents, injuries, and hazards across ADF Careers, working with the Adecco WHS team to ensure data and information provided is accurate.​
  • Assist in the development and delivery of safety and wellbeing initiatives

Your background will demonstrate:

  • Working knowledge of relevant local/national WHS legislation, regulations, Codes of Practice, Safe Work Procedures and Australian Standards.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to deliver presentations and/or training to staff on health and safety topics, and negotiate, liaise, and build relationships across multiple levels of stakeholders and employees.
  • Strong attention to detail with an ability to manage competing priorities and maintain quality service delivery when working under pressure.
  • Keen observation and strong problem-solving skills to identify and suggest necessary changes to unsafe work conditions
  • Resilient and adaptable mindset, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
