Data and Analytics Translator

About the role

The Data and Analytics Translator works as a part of the Business Intelligence Team. This role is responsible for bridging the gap between the technical team and business function. This role requires a person who is both business and data savvy.

This role will be the link between the Program Team and the Business Intelligence Developers defining complex data-related requirements that bring strategic business priorities to life for clients. Direct interface with internal program teams and client stakeholders required as needed.

What you’ll be doing

  • Partners with BI Leaders, BI Developers, BI Advisors and SMEs to evaluate the data feasibility and ensure that BI products meet the client’s requirements. 
  • Utilizes their working knowledge to translate business questions and goals to data requirements and help Business Intelligence  technical teams design the reporting/analytics solutions according to established Pontoon Business Intelligence & Analytics best practices. 
  • Desires to ask questions and get a deeper understanding of issues in the business and data. Identifying data elements needed to build the reporting/analytics solutions. 
  • Liaises  with VMS and ATS vendors to understand data structure and definitions; incorporate this knowledge to design BI reporting solutions. 
  • Produces documentation and specifications for the data elements and logic used in BI solutions. 
  • Develops a deep understanding of the way each data set should be used in the reporting/analytical solution. Makes recommendations to the underlying data model as needed. 
  • Ensures the reporting/analytical solution output will be understood and useable by users. 
  • Validates  the reporting/analytical solution results against real life. Adjust data logic to meet the business reality. 
  • Responsible for the success of reporting and analytics projects. 
  • Expert knowledge of MSP/RXO/SOW lines of business. Responsible for designing standard metric playbook for each line of business. 
  • Supports the continuous improvement of dashboards that support our clients. 
  • Analyses and supports with data warehouse and BI development teams by interpreting the rules for data integration and data conversion, evaluate incoming data from many disparate data sources to help with data modelling. 
  • Performs data analysis, data profiling, analyse and troubleshoot issues with current and planned data sources, maintain a high level of ongoing data quality within BI products. 
  • Design and conduct data verification to allow certification of system data integrity (true to source). 
  • Maintain a log of data issues and provide the BI team with timely guidance on the impact of the issues and mitigation options. 
  • As a Data Subject Matter Expert, participate in peer reviews and other activities to ensure the BI team understands the data and produces accurate, high quality deliverables with respect to the data. 
  • Understand and explain data linkages, hierarchies, sequencing, and nuances in new and existing data sources. 
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned. 
About you

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Business, Technology, or a related field with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in a business intelligence analytics role  and five (5) years of experience developing reports and dashboards in business intelligence tools. 
  • Prior experience working as part of a team with a common goal and shared responsibilities. 
  • Experience working in a data-centric business environment. 
  • Experience managing multiple development projects at one time is required. 
  • Working experience with SQL, Python, R, or Java scripting is required. 
  • Direct experience working with and manipulating raw data, familiarization with data aggregation levels. 
  • Experience with technologies utilized in the human resources or talent acquisition/management fields and their resultant data is highly desired. 
  • Experience in the staffing and contingent workforce industries is highly desirable. 
  • Experience working with Power BI and/or other Business Intelligence visualization tools.

  • Skilled in communicating effectively verbally and in writing. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. 
  • Ability to understand end-user needs and assist in the development of business intelligence products. 
  • Ability to demonstrate strong analytical skills and pick up new technologies quickly. 
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a group or team environment. 
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
  • Ability to identify how best to visualize a given data set and to create those visualizations. 
  • Ability to transform business-level requirements to actionable metrics and insights. 
  • Proficient with VMS systems (Fieldglass, Beeline,  Vndly etc) and ATS systems (SuccessFactors, Workday, Taleo, Avature etc.). 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
